PROFESSIONAL PATH

Early in my career, I worked behind the scenes at CNN's Washington D.C. bureau. That job exposed me to “big picture” thinking and how to pitch a story and sculpt a message. I noticed who was being tapped as an authority and why they had something of relevance to share, and applied these principles on behalf of grassroots causes that mattered to me.

The projects I’ve led, and the people I work with, impact change.

MILESTONES

  • January 2024: Became a Certified Association Executive as part of the American Society of Association Executives

  • October 2022: Co-Founder, Sense of Beer Style show, Lyons, Colorado/Boise, Idaho

  • December 2021: Executive Director, American Homebrewers Association, Boulder, Colorado

  • December 2020: Creator of Gray For Good - For All Womanhood global campaign

  • July 2020: Started HerzMuses Enterprises, LLC in my hometown of Lyons, Colorado

  • June 2020: COVID caused lay-off from the Brewers Association

  • January 2007 - June 2020: Craft Beer Program Director, Brewers Association, Boulder, CO

  • December 2016: Beer Pairing: The Essential Guide From The Pairing Pros (Voyageur Press) by Gwen Conley and Julia Herz publishes

  • January 2002 – December 2005: Vice President, Redstone Meadery, Boulder, CO along with co-creator of the International Mead Association/International Mead Festival

  • October 1998 - August 2001: Sales Manager, Association of Brewers, Boulder, CO

  • July 1996 – September 1998: Director of Account Services, Boulder Marketing Agency, Boulder, CO with an emphasis on clients in consumer electronics

  • December 1994 - October 1995: National Campaign Manager, Tom Shellenberg Presidential Campaign, Boulder, CO

  • August 1994 - November 1994: Media Coordinator, State Amendment 15, Common Cause/League of Women Voters, Colorado 

  • 1991 to 1994: Production Coordinator (1991-1993) and then Associate Producer (1994), CNN, Washington D.C. bureau

  • 1990: Graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa with a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism and recipient of the Mass Communications Department Chair Award

  • I grew up in the Maryland/Washington, D.C. area
