Herz and Storton Team Up To Educate The World About Beer

LYONS, COLORADO / BOISE, IDAHO— Two of today’s top educators in beer announce the launch of an innovative new show, Sense of Beer Style, devoted to essential beer-style training for those who want to lead in beer. With beer being the world’s top-selling fermented beverage, the show fills a void by covering foundational concepts and touring the audience through the new 2021 Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) style guidelines. Each episode will be published as a podcast and video show.
Show hosts Jeremy Storton of Good Beer Matters and Julia Herz of HerzMuses Enterprises and the American Homebrewers Association joined forces while studying for the Advanced Cicerone® test (they passed) in the Fall of 2021. As beer educators and BJCP judges, the duo are the perfect pair to help food and beverage professionals, homebrewers, professional brewers, and beer lovers demystify, explore and celebrate the beverage.
Lights Out Lyons Promotes Night Sky Appreciation
Stargazing Event In Lyons, Colorado on August 05
On August 05, 2022 town of Lyons residents and businesses are encouraged to go “lights out” in support of dark sky awareness and stargazing appreciation. Lights Out Lyons is a dark sky event timed during one of the peak viewing nights of the Perseids meteor shower. Bohn Park in Lyons, Colorado will be the meeting point for guided talks and stargazing. This is a free event! Pack in and pack out required. All other park rules apply.
Beginning at 7 pm we will accommodate overnight tent camping (first come first served until capacity is reached). Note: Tents only with walk-in required; 4-inch stakes or less; no vehicle camping.
8:30 pm stargazing talks begin, 9-10 pm acoustic music
Stargazing to happen dark to sunrise with peak viewing after midnight until dawn
Timed to the Perseids Meteor Shower, the Lyons Parks & Recreation Commission wants to encourage celebration of our parks and skies at night along with awareness of light pollution and its negative detriments. The Dark-Sky Association emphasizes “inappropriate or excessive use of artificial light – known as light pollution – can have serious environmental consequences for humans, wildlife, and our climate.”

Veteran craft beer advocate returns to the Brewers Association in new role devoted to the hobby of homebrewing

November 29, 2021 — The Brewers Association (BA)—the not-for-profit trade association dedicated to small and independent American craft brewers—today announced the hire of Julia Herz as the executive director of the American Homebrewers Association® (AHA), the BA’s homebrewing division.
Herz (pronounced “hers”) has more than two decades of experience in the brewing industry, including two prior roles at the Brewers Association. She is a cause marketer, an award-winning homebrewer, a BJCP certified beer judge, an Advanced Cicerone®, a beer educator, and co-author of Beer Pairing: The Essential Guide from the Pairing Pros and CraftBeer.com’s Beer & Food Course. Herz’s accomplishments include creating and publishing Craftbeer.com, the website for craft beer lovers, and passionately leading the promotion of small and independent craft brewers via national beer holidays, the independent craft brewer seal, and promoting responsible beer appreciation to mainstream media and beer lovers.
